My Freshman Year (41-66)

Throughout this reading I could really relate to what she was saying and I was comparing AnyU to Bloomsburg. For example, when Dr. Nathans talked about the Seminar freshmen had to take I thought of the seminars that people took for their major not for college life. I had to take Early Childhood Education seminar which explained what I had to do in order to be a successful teacher as long as get into the major. The freshman at Bloomsburg go through instead of a Seminar a Welcome Weekend, where they meet with OWLs (Orientation Workshop Leader). I am an OWL here at Bloomsburg and I could relate when she talked about the person that talked in front of the Freshman and had them leave early because no one was participating. I had to do that many times because having them ask questions and participate was not happening so I just had them leave early. When it came to the lounges it is not the same as Bloomsburg. People are always in the lounges either studying or playing games. People also have their doors open all the time and people are always socializing with each other. The RAs and the CAs were pretty much the same because the hall meetings would start with everyone would come and then as the semester went on only a couple people would show up. They also both ask what you want some activities to be in the beginning of the year and usually only a couple people would show up to the events. AnyU and Bloomsburg have many similarities and differences.

Ethnography (27-47)
This reading was much easier to understand and follow. I really understand what an ethnographer does now and the job is definitely harder then I thought it would be. I can definitely relate to their job because of the CLUE project that we are doing for class. We are doing similar things to what ethnographers do. We have to observe an area or group of people and explain what and rarely ever why they do what they do. They don't seem to ask why in their observations and at first I didn't quite understand that because I want to know why they do the things they do in a certain group or culture. They surround themselves in a group or culture and certain things that they do they don't ask why they do it because it isn't something that they ever do. When I did parts of my CLUE project I was always asking why and I couldn't seem to answer it because there was different reasons as to why someone does something or decorates something. Like I said before, throughout this chapter I could definitely relate to what they were saying because I am technically an ethnographer doing this CLUE project.
